HSRD's Rodriguez receives health physicist certification

Richard E. Rodriguez, an applied health physicist in the Health Sciences Research Division at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been certified in the comprehensive practice of health physics by the American Board of Health Physics.

The certification process is based on four criteria: a two-part technical competence test, educational background, professional experience and performance, and demonstrated dedication to the field of health physics.

Rodriguez has been an environmental health physicist and project leader of the Measurement Applications and Development Group, Assessment Technology Section since 1989. His responsibilities include managing and interpreting gathered data and documenting radiological survey results.

In addition to his managerial duties, he serves as radiological control officer for HSRD where he interacts with all levels of HSRD management to ensure compliance with radiological standards.

Rodriguez received his bachelor's degree in health physics from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, in 1987. He and his wife, Ronda, live in Concord.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
