The ORNL Traveling Science Fair brings interactive science experiences directly to students through scheduled visits with schools, school districts, and other organizations. Through carnival-style mobile exhibits, students explore Oak Ridge National Laboratory research, learn about different areas of science and technology, and discover potential STEM career pathways.
ORNL works with participating organizations to plan a Traveling Science Fair experience for their students. During a scheduled visit, students rotate through interactive exhibits, explore scientific concepts, and learn how ORNL research connects with real-world challenges.
What Students Will Experience
The Traveling Science Fair gives students an opportunity to explore science through interactive exhibits and connect what they are learning with research and STEM careers.
During the experience, students can:
Explore interactive exhibits covering a variety of science and technology topics.
Learn about ORNL research and its real-world applications.
Discover STEM careers and potential career pathways.
Learn about the scientists, engineers, and other professionals who contribute to research at ORNL.
Mobile Science Exhibits
The Traveling Science Fair features carnival-style mobile exhibits that introduce students to scientific concepts, ORNL research, and areas of STEM discovery.
Each exhibit provides an interactive way for students to explore science and learn how research and technology are used to address real-world challenges.
Plan a Traveling Science Fair Visit
ORNL works with schools, school districts, and other organizations to coordinate Traveling Science Fair visits for groups of students. Visits are planned in advance with participating organizations to create scheduled STEM experiences for their students.
The Traveling Science Fair typically schedules about five visits each year. Because availability is limited, submitting an interest form does not guarantee that a visit can be scheduled.
Organizations interested in bringing the Traveling Science Fair to their students can submit an interest form. The information provided will help the Traveling Science Fair team learn more about your organization, students, and potential visit.
