Teacher Summer Institute

Educators participating in the Teacher Summer Institute present research projects in Weinberg Auditorium at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The ORNL Teacher Summer Institute is a monthlong externship that gives local middle and high school teachers an opportunity to experience real-world science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

By experiencing research firsthand, educators gain greater insight into how STEM knowledge and skills are applied in a national laboratory environment. Participants can use those experiences to help students connect classroom learning with STEM careers, research, and future educational pathways.
