Bio
Thomas is the Spallation Neutron Source Senior Operations Advisor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. As the SNS Senior Operations Advisor, Thomas supports the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of SNS by advising the Chief Operating Officer for the Neutron Sciences Directorate on key decisions and coordinating cross-divisional efforts.
Thomas brings almost two decades of experience in both nuclear and accelerator engineering and operations. Most recently, Thomas worked in the Accelerator Safety Program at ORNL. Thomas has also been recognized as an accelerator safety expert across the DOE national laboratory complex and has supported multiple readiness reviews.
Before joining ORNL, Thomas worked at Naval Nuclear Laboratory, which supports the U.S. Navy’s fleet of nuclear-powered submarines and aircraft carriers. During his 14 years at NNL, Thomas held multiple roles of increasing responsibility, ranging from criticality safety, to reactor design, and reactor plant testing. Thomas culminated his time with NNL serving in an operational oversight role at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Thomas grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and holds both Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tennessee.
