Bio
Sarah Slack is an Analytical Chemist at the Transuranium Analysis Laboratory (TAL). She received her bachelor of science in Biology with Chemistry minor from Tennessee Wesleyan College. She joined ORNL in September 2024 and has steadily increased her roles and responsibilities supporting the TAL portfolio of analytical projects including the nuclear isotope production at the Radiochemical Engineering Development Center.
Before joining ORNL, Sarah worked for 6 years at Y-12 in Oak Ridge. Her first 3 years were spent as an Analytical Chemist where she completed analysis of numerous unique complex material streams via Cold Vapor Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (CVAAS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). Sarah then transitioned to a Development Scientist role where she developed analysis and digestion methods for new/routine material streams while ensuring NQA-1 compliance for ICP-OES, ICP-MS, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (WD-XRF). These roles also included the responsibilities of writing/reviewing procedures, reviewing data, instrument maintenance/installation and training/mentoring colleagues.
