Cartographer & GIS Analyst

Nicole Samu is a technical professional staff member in Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Environmental Sciences Division with experience and specialization in geographic information systems (GIS) and cartography. Her primary role is to support interdisciplinary research and sponsor activities through providing geospatial data management and stewardship, cartographic services, front-end web development, support/oversight for website technical operations, and input for strategic planning initiatives. Nicole holds B.A. and M.S. degrees in geography from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and her main career interests and goals involve using GIS and advanced cartographic techniques to help engage and inform both expert and general audiences for impacts such as scientific knowledge discovery, renewable energy sustainability, conservation, land and water resource management, environmental awareness, public health and safety, and community engagement.
