Communications Coordinator


Kelley Smith is currently the Communications Coordinator for the Neutron Sciences Directorate (NScD) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).  In that position he is responsible for the directorate's communications and outreach strategy, provides communications advice, works with members of the media, and he is a primary point of contact for NScD staff that need communications services. 


Prior to his current position he served as the Director of Communications and International Affairs Advisor for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Science Policy in Washington, D.C. Before that he held a number of positions at the White House and EPA (2008–2016) where he was responsible for helping the President communicate with the public and advised senior EPA officials on environmental and outreach issues. 


Kelley received a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of Maine at Farmington in 2007. He currently resides in Oak Ridge with three dogs and is happily married to Megan McNees.
