Florian Antretter is a building scientist joining ORNL in 2018. During his career he developed strong skills in leading and managing interdisciplinary teams in a research environment as group manager of the work group “Hygrothermal Building Analysis” at the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics in Germany. This included the responsibility for strategic research development, for staff and budget. He is involved in proposal writing and ensuring that projects for federally or industry funded projects are delivered on time and within budget for more than 10 years.
He built up expert knowledge in conducting measurements and statistical data assessment on material, component and whole building scale in laboratory and in the field. As long-time head of development of the hygrothermal whole building simulation software WUFI® Plus he am aware of the workflow for the design, implementation and validation of advanced numerical algorithms. Supervising the development and application of one of the worlds leading hygrothermal whole building simulation software with all included decision making, provides background for a team-based achievement of research goals with high individual responsibility. Extending and transferring the knowledge is one of the drivers of his involvement to teach in seminars and workshops or in teaching assignments on bachelor and master level. He supervised more than 25 bachelor, diploma and master thesis and hosted several visiting researchers in his group at Fraunhofer IBP. With his involvement as voting member in ASHRAE committees and with more than 50 technical papers, book chapters, reports and proceedings he ensure that findings from advanced research are distributed and applied in the field.
