Ahmad Abu-Heiba is an R&D Associate Staff with the Building Equipment Research Group (BERG) within the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Building Technologies and Integration Center. Ahmad Abu-Heiba graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2008 with an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering working on Solar Hybrid Lighting. In 2009, Ahmad joined Team Consulting, which later became IntelliChoice Energy. For the following 6 years, Ahmad worked on the development and commercialization of gas engine driven integrated heat pumps and micro-CHPs. The work involved thermal design of the refrigeration circuit, component selection, whole building energy simulation, economic analysis, embedded controls and data acquisition. Ahmad served as the main liaison to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Air Resouces Board (CARB) in order to ensure and maintain compliance of the GHP with the applicable environmental regulations. In 2015, Ahmad joined BERG as a Post Master Research Associate. For the following 18 months, Ahmad worked mainly on the then newly invented Ground Level Integrated Diverse Energy Storage (GLIDES). In August 2016, Ahmad became an R&D Associate Staff with BERG. His research areas include gas fired integrated heat pumps and magnetocaloric refrigeration. Ahmad has 1 invention disclosure, more than 10 publications and 1 patent. Ahmad is a member of ASHRAE.
Ahmad's experience includes thermal systems model and analysis, thermofluid engineering, building energy simulation, energy storage and alternative cooling and heating.
