Andrew Wereszczak, a distinguished scientist at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory, recently received the top award from the ceramics committee of ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials.
The Advanced Ceramics Award was granted in recognition of Wereszczak’s outstanding contributions in the field of advanced ceramics and leadership as chair of subcommittees on ceramic matrix composites and applications, according to ASTM.
Wereszczak’s 30-year career as a ceramic engineer and scientist at ORNL has focused on the analysis, testing and processing of ceramics, glasses and other brittle materials. His work has influenced material and structural improvements for a variety of applications in energy, manufacturing, defense and national security. He is also a joint faculty professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Wereszczak is a fellow of the American Ceramic Society and has received multiple awards for his work. He earned his bachelor’s degree in ceramic engineering from Alfred University in New York and his doctorate in materials science and engineering from the University of Delaware.
