An experiment by researchers at the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory demonstrated advanced quantum-based cybersecurity can be realized in a deployed fiber link.

Two different teams that included Oak Ridge National Laboratory employees were honored Feb. 20 with Secretary’s Honor Achievement Awards from the Department of Energy. This is DOE's highest form of employee recognition. 

Moriano awarded early career fellowship for underrepresented groups

Pablo Moriano, a research scientist in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division at ORNL, was selected as a member of the 2024 Class of MGB-SIAM Early Career Fellows.

ORNL and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, co-hosted the 2023 National Society of Black Physicists Annual Conference with the theme "Frontiers in Physics: From Quantum to Materials to the Cosmos.” As part of the three-day conference held near UT, attendees took a 30-mile trip to the ORNL campus for facility tours, science talks and workshops.

In summer 2023, ORNL's Prasanna Balaprakash was invited to speak at a roundtable discussion focused on the importance of academic artificial intelligence research and development hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the U.S. National Science Foundation.

Summit debuted in 2018 at No.1 on the TOP500 list of the world’s most powerful supercomputers with a peak performance of 200 petaflops. Since then, nearly 5,000 users have used Summit to conduct research on climate, energy, public health and national security.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility has informed the recipients of high-performance computing time through the SummitPLUS allocation program, which extends the operation of the Summit supercomputer through October 2024.
