Institutional Biosafety Committee

An Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is required at institutions that receive funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for research involving recombinant or synthetic DNA molecules. All recombinant DNA research at ORNL, regardless of funding source, must be conducted in accordance with the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules and must be registered with the IBC.

The ORNL IBC for Oak Ridge National Laboratory was established in accordance with guidelines set forth by the National Institutes of Health regarding research involving recombinant nucleic acid molecules. Additionally, the IBC provides the policies and guidelines to researchers under which studies may be conducted to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal requirements (e.g., NIH, CDC, OSHA, USDA, etc.).

Below are minutes and notes from the committee’s meetings.
