Abstract

The question of how autonomous vehicles will shape the future of our cities is everywhere. The potential for traffic decongestion, energy savings, and reconnecting underserved neighborhoods offers enormous opportunities to reconceptualize and transform public transportation as we know it. A team of designers lead by Scott Duncan, a design partner at the architecture, urban planning and engineering firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is developing a speculative system for the next generation of infrastructure for the city of Chicago.
