The question of how autonomous vehicles will shape the future of our cities is everywhere. The potential for traffic decongestion, energy savings, and reconnecting underserved neighborhoods offers enormous opportunities to reconceptualize and transform public transportation as we know it. A team of designers lead by Scott Duncan, a design partner at the architecture, urban planning and engineering firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is developing a speculative system for the next generation of infrastructure for the city of Chicago.
Throughout his 17-year tenure at SOM, Scott Duncan has developed a body of work recognized by The American Institute of Architects, MIPIM Asia, and World Architecture Festival, and featured in numerous international publications. His extensive experience in the design and implementation of complex projects around the world includes large-scale mixed-use, transportation, commercial, hospitality, and residential developments in Asia.
Mr. Duncan’s most recent large-scale project, the Pertamina Energy Tower in Jakarta, is the world’s first supertall tower for which energy is the primary design driver. The iconic headquarters building is targeting GBCI Platinum Net Positive Energy Consumption.
