Most observers do not realize that motorsports is a large engineering endeavor, with billions spent annually on research and development. In this talk, the speaker demystifies the process of racecar design, testing, and competition. Tools and methods are discussed as well as the current frontiers in industry. The speaker illustrates how data analytics is used across the sport, from grassroots leagues to NASCAR and Formula 1.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Donour Sizemore is Vice President at Two Sigma Investments in New York. From 2011 to 2014, he served as a Trackside Systems Director for Michael Waltrip Racing. In this role, he developed custom software for design, testing, and race strategy, as well as introduced HPC into the design process and developed and deployed advanced networking systems. He also served as a visiting researcher at Sun Microsystems (2009) where he researched performance and feature enhancements for the Solaris operating system. He was also a technical programmer and the Director of Research Computing at the University of Chicago Economics Research Center (2003 to 2005).
