R&D100 Awards Announced

Energy and Environmental Sciences at ORNL wins three R&D100 awards for exceptional innovations in science and technology. For more information visit


High Voltage Electrolytes for Ultracapacitors. The developers are P.I. Jagjit Nanda with Frank Delnick, Rose Ruther and Landon Tyler. 

Multinode Evolutionary Neural Networks for Deep Learning (MENNDL). The developers are P.I. Robert Patton with Thomas Karnowski, Seung-Hwan Lim, Thomas Potok, Derek Rose and Steven Young of ORNL. 

TNT Cloning System. The developers are Gerald Tuskan and Xiaohan Yang of ORNL and Henrique De Paoli of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. 


ORNL researchers were partners on the following winners: 

Mobile Universal Grid Analyzer (m-UGA). The developer is the University of Tennessee, with ORNL as co-developer. The ORNL P.I. is Yilu Liu. 

Ambient Reactive Extrusion Additive Manufacturing. The lead developer is PPG Industries, Inc., with ORNL's Orlando Rios as a co-developer.
