Gitanjali Rao, a seventh grader from Colorado who was awarded the title of “America’s top young scientist” for designing a compact device to detect lead in drinking water, recently visited DOE’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) at ORNL to film a YouTube segment for STEM Scouts, which promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on lab sessions and interactions with researchers. Rao interviewed MDF researcher Brian Post and learned about 3D printing by touring large-scale printers and viewing the excavator, Shelby Cobra and printed-utility vehicle.
