The Integrated Computational Earth Sciences (ICES) Group improves process understanding of the Earth system across scales by developing and applying process-based and artificial intelligence models, integrating observational data, and quantifying Earth system predictability and uncertainty. With a focus on interactions between biological systems and water and energy cycles, ICES quantifies interactions and feedbacks within and between the Earth system and human, terrestrial, marine systems through biogeochemical cycles. ICES applies computational tools and expertise to urban and regional studies aimed at advancing energy and water infrastructure resilience, predicting hazards and risks associated with extreme events and wildfire, and projecting regional to global environmental dynamics at seasonal to decadal time scales. ICES specializes in management and distribution of large scale model and observational data and development of methods and tools for quantitative assessment and benchmarking of coupled, multiscale Earth system models at urban, regional, and global scales.
