Workshop on CMR Manganites
and Related Transition
Metal Oxides
Telluride, Colorado, July 14-20, 2002
Future
Trends in CMR
Following are some questions and future areas of investigation that
the Workshop participants consider important to address:
- How homogeneous is
the metallic state?
- What is the
relationship between the exchange interaction and TC? What is
the balance between double exchange and superexchange?
- What is the nature of
the ferromagnetic insulating state (w/wo charge
order?)
- Is phase separation
intrinsic to CMR?
- How should
“correlated polarons” be described
theoretically?
- How can we control
disorder?
- Can spin transport
devices be constructed where the doping is controlled electronically?
- What controls the
spin-flip scattering at interfaces and surfaces?
- What is the role of
orbital ordering in the phase diagram?
- Is there a “real” “pseudogap” in the CMR materials, in analogy with the cuprates?
