ORNL is home to a number of highly sophisticated experimental user facilities that provide unmatched capabilities to the broader scientific community, including a growing user community from universities, industry, and other laboratories research institutions, as well as to ORNL researchers. These facilities offer a diverse set of tools for experiments across the range of the Department of Energy’s R&D missions and include world-leading facilities for neutron scattering, high performance computing, material and nanoscale research, and a range of other disciplines.
Users must meet certain administrative requirements before they can access the facilities. Users’ research proposals are reviewed with regard to their scientific merit, the suitability of the proposed research to the user facilities, and the appropriateness of the work to DOE objectives.
Onsite accommodations are available at the ORNL Guest House, located on the ORNL campus, just a short walk away from the Spallation Neutron Source and within a five-minute drive of any part of the laboratory, including the High Flux Isotope Reactor and the Conference Center. The Guest House is a 47-room lodging facility. All rooms have a mini fridge and microwave. Reservations can be made day or night by calling 865.576.8101, or you can make an online reservation.
