Chris T Tyler

Dr. Christopher Tyler joined ORNL in 2021 as Senior R&D Staff for the Intelligent Machine Tools Group. His research interests include machining process optimization, smart manufacturing, and machining process monitoring. Prior to joining ONRL, he worked as a research engineer within the Boeing Research & Technology Machining Development Group in St. Louis, MO. There, he helped standardize production methods for machined part optimization, led government-funded programs related to near-net shape preform machining, and acted as the Boeing machining focal for several manufacturing consortia. Dr. Tyler earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2015, where his research focused on the modeling and verification of machining process dynamics in hard-to-machine metal alloys.
