Komachi STATUS : Document for the SC18/WG8 meeting in Boston REQUESTED ACTION : For Information DATE : Nov. 11, 1996 DISTRIBUTION : WG8 The 9th Meeting of CJK DOCP was held at Sydney, Australia, in Sept. 23-24, 1996, just before the SGML Asia Pacific '96. Nine members from Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Australia and U.S. attended to discuss about East Asia specific topics for actual applications of WG8 developed standards, in particular SGML, HyTime and Font Information Interchange. Major discussion were carried out on - Complicated hypermedia/multimedia documents, e.g., sutras, - Japanese and Chinese representation of SGML terminology, - Japanese and Chinese representation of Fonts terminology, - SGML declaration (in particular, naming rule appropriate for East Asian characters), - SGML description for East Asian Tables, - Treatment of Kanji components, - Kanji and its Variants, and - Style specification for Japanese documents and other East Asian documents. The next CJK DOCP meeting will be held in the ROC, February 1997. The experts who are interested in East Asian document description/processing are expected to attend the meeting. Extended naming rule CJK DOCP instructs Mr. R. Jelliffe to develop an example of SGML declaration of ISO/IEC 10646 characters with Prof. Hsieh's extension using the extended naming rule. Resolution 2. Asian language text corpora CJK DOCP instructs Prof. J. Lehman to develop an example of TEI encoded document instance which includes ISO/IEC 10646 characters with Prof. Hsieh's extension and which includes, if possible, the use of extended ISO 639. Resolution 3. SGML terminology CJK DOCP instructs Prof. C. C. Hsieh to fill the Chinese column of CJK-DOCP/96-7. Resolution 4. Fonts terminology CJK DOCP instructs Dr. Y. Komachi to draft CJK representation of Fonts terminology including completed Japanese column and instructs Prof. C. C. Hsieh to fill its Chinese column. Resolution 5. Table DTD CJK DOCP instructs Mr. R. Jelliffe to develop a new text of the "CJK recommendation on model/DTD of tables" according to the discussion of this meeting. Resolution 6. Multilingual document interchange using SDATA and BUCS CJK DOCP instructs Mr. Y. Okui to revise CJK-DOCP/96-14 considering the suggestion of Prof. Hsieh. Resolution 7. CJK DOCP recognizes the importance of the character/glyph treatments proposed by CJK-DOCP/96-11 and CJK-DOCP/96-12, and instructs Prof. C. C. Hsieh and Prof Lehmen to edit them to be structured in the form of CJK recommendation. Resolution 8. Style for CJK multilingual documents CJK DOCP instructs Prof. C. C. Hsieh, Prof. J. Lehman, Mr. Li Longjiang and Mr. R. Jelliffe to provide their comments to Mr. Y. Okui, so that Mr. Okui may edit CJK DOCP/96-15 to be a CJK recommendation on the style of CJK multilingual documents. Resolution 9. Typeface design grouping CJK DOCP instructs Prof. C. C. Hsieh and Dr. Y. Komachi to provide more presice typeface design grouping than ISO/IEC 9541-1/DAM1 regarding Chinese typefaces and Japanese typefaces respectively. Resolution 10. 10th meetings The 10th CJK DOCP meeting will be held in the ROC in February, 1997. Prof. Hsieh is requested to arrange the meeting. Resolution 11.
