Hazard Prediction and Analysis Capability (HPAC-MB)

Problem Statement:

  • Develop and enhance HPAC’s Nuclear Facility Accident (NFAC) model to represent to represent a range of accident scenarios and source terms.  Support predictive and forensic analysis of nuclear accidents.  Provide libraries for interfacing to and managing LandScan data for population counting within HPAC.

Technical Approach:

  • Implement server and client Java components within the HPAC component architecture and framework.  Maintain a database of facilities and reactor inventories.  Implement high performing population counting components in C/C++.


  • ORNL established as DTRA’s reference for nuclear facility accidents.  Familiarity with HPAC architecture allowing integration of other codes (e.g., VISAC) within HPAC and vice-versa.
