In 1997, Mutation Research will devote a new section to the union between genomics and mutation research, entitled Mutation Research Genomics, as described in the December 1996 issue of Mutation Research Forum. Managing editor Anthony V. Carrano (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory) says the new section will include papers on the nature and consequences of genome variations in humans and appropriate model systems. Its focus will be on experimental approaches, instrumentation, and informatics technologies useful for measuring and characterizing genetic variation. Mutation Research Genomics will be produced in traditional hard copy and online, initially in one volume of four issues. Background information on development of the field of Mutation Genomics is given by John S. Wassom (Oak Ridge National Laboratory) in an editorial in the September 1996 issue of the Mutation Research Forum.
