This is a one day workshop designed to provide information on informatics and computer based tools of interest to genomics and functional genomics scientists.
The Heidelberg Computer group will present an overview on different methods of sequence aligment (blast-fast-Smith/Waterman-HMM), explaining the ideas and the differences in specificity using examples (total ~1-1.5h). This group will also discuss in silico EST walking. These topics were not covered in last year's workshop. Thomas Werner will give a lecture on promotor identification and promotor analysis (>3 h). In addition, there will be a discussion describing useful web pages (~1 h). Also planned is a discussion of the bioinformatics of expression profiling and underlying mathematics and statistics.
