Navigation, Tools
A custom-designed, self-explanatory navigation system has been designed especially to fit the needs of the busy health professional.

The table of contents provides access to the four major content areas. In addition, the user can read about using the courseware, become introduced to the Human Genome Project, open personal bookmarks, enter the CME exam, become acquainted with CME accreditation, see the credits and acknowledgements, download course updates from a website, and utilize links to genetic resources on the Internet.

The upper menu bar gives the title of the current “page” (Vectors and Inserts in this example). Pulldown menus provide access to the four major sections of the courseware and to the topic headings in the selected section. The table of contents, the index, and the glossary may be opened using the buttons at the upper right.

The lower menu bar permits the user to move to any page in a section. The current page is indicated by a box surrounding the page number. Buttons for the “Previous” or “Next” pages are also provided. “Maximize Graphics” is the default view, but “Maximize Text Area” may be selected to minimize scrolling. This setting maintains a reference graphic. The pull-up “Tools” menu governs text printing, personal bookmarks, and notes. Some pages present Sidebars with topical information. “Quit” exits the courseware.

The red buttons on the interactive/animation screens initiate presentations. Animations have additional controls below the active window (these are not present in the web demo).
