DOE Human Genome Program Report

Comparative Sequencing.  Comparative sequencing of homologous regions in human and mouse at LLNL has enhanced the ability to identify protein-coding (exon) and noncoding DNA regions that have remained unchanged over the course of evolution.  Colors in the figure below depict similarities in mouse and human genes involved in DNA repair, a research interest rooted in DOE's mission to develop better technologies for measuring health effects, particularly mutations.

The 1997 DOE Human Genome Program Report is a two-part report published in 1997 to reflect research and progress in the U.S. Department of Energy Human Genome Program from 1994 through 1996, with specified updates made just before publication.  Part 1 is the program overview and report on progress, and Part 2 consists of 1996 research abstracts.
