Description Of Wall
During September 2004, an innovative bio-based spray-in-place foam insulation was tested by ORNL BTC. Ultra-light weight, two-part soybean oil-based polyurethane was utilized to insulated conventional 2x4 wood-framed wall (studs were installed at 16-in.o.c.). It was an open-cell, semi-rigid foam that in one step provided a thermal insulation for traditionally-framed wall. During the Hot box testing, the Soybean wall was not covered by any finish materials.

Thermal conductivity of the soybean oil-based polyurethane insulation was measured at the ORNL Material Properties Laboratory using ASTM C518 method at mean temperature - 75°F. Thermal conductivities for the soybean foam are presented in the table below.
