Summary Of Hotbox Test Data And Calculations

TEST RESULTS

For all test walls, the average temperatures were computed by area-weighting the average cavity, stud, and track surface temperatures. The temperatures and heat flows presented in the table are averages for the time interval for the test after steady-state had been achieved. The overall surface area of the test wall was 64-ft². To area weight the surface temperature, the percentage of the total wall surface area that each individual wall component comprised was determined.

The table summarizes the calculated wall systems’ heat flows and R-values as well as the temperature data needed for those calculations. The listed data is the average over the steady-state collection period. The following is a description of the individual components listed in the table. It summarizes hot-box test results for all test wall assemblies – surface-to-surface R-values are shown in bold. Columns Steel 1 - Steel 6 are hot-box test results for steel-framed wall assemblies using studs installed at 24-in. on center. Steel 10, 12, and 16 are hot-box test results for steel-framed wall assemblies using studs installed at 16-in. on center.
