This group of compounds exists in the form of gases or liquids that become gases at low temperatures. They may be found dissolved in water or may be trapped in soil or other solid substances. Common examples of volatile compounds are chloroform, methylene chloride and carbon tetrachloride. Analysis is accomplished using a purge and trap GC-MS.
