| Metals
and Inorganic Mass Spectrometry
The RMAL has a variety of analytical capabilities for the analysis of metals and isotopics. All of the analytical equipment is either located in a radiochemical hood or is modified to interface with a hood system for the analysis of radioactive samples. To learn more about these instruments and the typical metal analysis performed on each follow the link to the Metals and Inorganic Mass Spectrometry page or go directly to the specific instrument using the hyper links in the middle column. Each instrument has a brief description on its operation with a list of typical analytes and their detection limits. Ion Chromatography and Carbon Analysis The RMAL has a Dionex 4500i ion chromatograph
with multiple detectors for the analysis of a large number of anionic and
cationic elements and compounds. A Shimadzu 5000A carbon analyzer interfaced
with a liquid with a solid sampler is used to determine total carbon, total
inorganic carbon, and total organic carbon content in both liquid and solid
samples To learn more about these instruments and
the typical analysis performed on each follow the link to the Ion
Chromatography/Carbon Analysis page
or go directly to the specific instrument using the hyper links in the
middle column. Each instrument has a brief description on its operation
with a list of typical analytes and their detection limits.

Misc/Physical
Measurements
The RMAL can provide a number of miscellaneous and physical measurements from pH and conductivity to special benchtop tests or pilot testing projects. These measurements are described further on the Miscellaneous/Physical Measurements page. Included are the more common physical tests performed by the RMAL such as rheometry studies and particle size analysis. Sample Preparations A number of sample preparations will need to be performed on a sample depending on the type of analysis requested and the analytical instrument used. The Sample Preparations page provides more details. Sample Analysis Request A sample request can be submitted on-line or in person with the laboratory. For special requests or specialty projects feel free to contact the RMAL to discuss your specific needs and requirements.
