Button Arc Melting Furnaces

Casting activities at ORNL apply experimental and computational techniques to understand the relationships among microstructure, processing, and properties in order to develop and optimize a variety of casting processes and processing technologies.

Conventional metals processing capability includes:

  • Air induction melting furnaces (50lb capacity)
  • Button arc melting (1lb capacity)
  • Vacuum Arc Remelting Furnace (50lb capacity)
