Research Interests:

Ramesh Bhave is a Senior Research Staff in the Physical Chemistry of Materials (PCM) group in the Materials Science & Technology Division at ORNL. He is the Director of the Inorganic Membrane Technology Laboratory and leads the Membrane Separations Research Program.

Selected current research initiates include:

• Innovative and collaborative research utilizing a variety of materials for the fabrication of novel gas separation membranes with high permselectivity that can operate at high temperatures, pressures and under corrosive environments.
• Development of microporous (< 2 nm) and dense composite membranes for liquid separation, fractionation and purification.
• Innovative approaches to membrane-based energy efficient integrated processes such as chemical/petrochemical applications and biochemical conversions in the production of liquid fuels using renewable alternatives to petroleum based transportation fuels.
• Development of membrane-based processes to address critical needs related to environmental and national security applications
