| The PFR is an important addition to the National
Transportation Research Center as a "user facility" that allows the various
organizations within the NTRC to have access to a single facility that can improve our
capabilities to satisfy customers' packaging and transportation needs. The PRF is a major improvement in the technology and the environmental
conditions under which packaging testing was previously performed. For over forty years,
Y-12, DOE-ORO facilities, other DOE sites, and private industries and companies have
requested ORNL's assistance in performing packaging testing; tests were performed at
various sites, sometimes under less than favorable conditions. The central location of new
equipment in NTRC's PFR allows for more convenient, timely, and cost-effective testing for
our customers. |
