| Our Mission. The mission of the Center for Separations and Chemical Processing (CSCP) is to create solutions to a broad spectrum of separations and chemical processing needs of DOE and industry: conceiving new processes, improving product quality, increasing energy and carbon efficiency, and cost-effectively managing effluents and wastes. The CSCP provides a coordinated focal point for separations and chemical processing across eight ORNL R&D divisions and their partners. Why ORNL? ORNL is uniquely positioned to undertake the CSCP mission because of its synergistic diversity of separations and chemical processing expertise in primary (e.g., chemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry) and enabling (e.g., computational sciences, neutron science, sensors and controls) disciplines. As a result, ORNL is identified in the DOE Strategic Laboratory Missions Plan as the "principal laboratory" in the area of chemical separations and analysis. ORNL is recognized for its strengths in integrating multidisciplinary teams, partnering with universities and the private sector, and bridging from basic to applied R&D. Partners. The CSCP facilitates partnerships with public- and private-sector organizations throughout the world to accomplish its mission. Each year we have approximately 4000 guest scientists working at ORNL (one-third from industry). We also work with industry by performing research under contract, conducting collaborative research, licensing technology, and implementing staff exchange. The CSCP also provides educational resources for universities through collaborative activities and student exchanges. Sponsors. Major sponsors are the DOE Offices of Science, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Fossil Energy, and Environmental Management and private-sector companies and consortia. |
