Prediction of Corrosion of Alloys in Mixed Solvent Environments

Corrosion is much less predictable in organic or mixed-solvent environments than in aqueous solutions, resulting in overdesign of equipment in many chemical industry processes. While corrosion is a major problem in the chemical industry, no modeling tool presently exists for non-aqueous or mixed-solvent process environments of critical interest to chemical companies.  Oak Ridge National Laboratory is involved in a collaborative effort to develop software products to predict corrosion that could save costs related to unexpected shutdowns, increase productivity, and reduce the risk of environmental releases.
