Nuclear Data and Criticality Safety Group
The Nuclear Data and Criticality Safety (ND) Group is part of the Reactor and Nuclear Systems Division (RNSD) within t
he Nuclear Science and Engineering Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) where it is responsible for providing nuclear data support for current and emerging nuclear applications. ND staff possess a broad range of physics and nuclear engineering expertise that is used to provide nuclear data support to a variety of sponsors including ORNL divisions and programs, Department of Energy (DOE) Offices and laboratories, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and the nuclear industry.
ND staff perform basic science R&D that includes cross-section measurements and analyses to develop nuclear data evaluations for the U.S. Evaluated Nuclear Data File (ENDF/B) system. Additionally, ND staff develop software and methods to support the evaluation of measured cross-section data (SAMMY) and the generation of cross-section libraries (AMPX) for radiation transport packages such as the SCALE code system. In short, the ND Group has the capability to provide comprehensive nuclear data support to address a wide variety of customer specific applications.
