Dr. Vladimir I. Merkulov
Vladimir I. Merkulov, Ph.D.

Dr. Vladimir Merkulov was one of the first MENT Research Staff Members and the key contributor to the controlled synthesis of carbon nanofibers. Before joining the MENT group, he received his BS degree in Computational Physics from St. Petersburg State University, Russia in 1992. In 1997, he earned his Ph.D. degree in Physics from Pennsylvania State University.

His doctoral research focused on studies of electronic and vibrational states and bonding in nanocrystalline carbon and amorphous diamond films and on the semimetal-to-semiconductor transition in carbon nanoparticles.

During his time in the MENT group, Dr. Merkulov authored or co-authored more than 30 papers, including the following seven first authorships:
