Kate L. Klein

Kate Klein, a native Vermonter and now a research associate in the MENT group, graduated with honors in engineering from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in May, 2003. While receiving her B.S. with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering, she was afforded the opportunity during the summers to conduct materials research at Stanford University with NSF funding and at ORNL with a DOE ERULF fellowship. For her senior year engineering design project, Kate built a high temperature vacuum annealing chamber and studied the effects of annealing on carbon nanofibers using the TEM and diffraction techniques. Kate has since rejoined the MENT group at ORNL to continue carbon nanofiber research, focusing on catalytic growth studies. She also is currently working on her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee. In her spare time, Kate enjoys traveling, baking, running, and gardening.
