ARCAM’s E-Beam Melting (EBM)

ORNL is working with Arcam to revolutionize metal additive manufacturing technologies for use throughout the aerospace and defense industries. The project goal is to certify the e-beam melting process of Ti-6Al-4V for manufacturing through closed loop control (not specific individual components), demonstrate rapid process development for new alloy systems such as Ni-based superalloys and stainless steel and increase process deposition rate by 5X to decrease associated component cost and allow the process to be viable in a manufacturing environment.  Implementation into industry would reduce material feedstock costs in the Arcam system by more than 50%.
