PART: SPECIAL NOTICES
OFFADD: U.S. Department Of Energy, Document Control Specialist,
  Washington, DC 20585
SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR WRITTEN EXPRESSIONS OF INTENT TO PURCHASE
  ELECTROMAGNETICALLY SEPARATED STABLE ISOTOPES
DESC: The Department of Energy requests written expressions of
intent to purchase electromagnetically separated stable isotopes
from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory calutron facility in
1999, 2000, and 2001 to 2003. For many years, the Department
has produced isotopes at the calutron facility. However, since
January 1998 the calutrons have been in standby mode due to
a lack of demand for isotopes available from this facility.
Sufficient inventory exists to service research isotope needs
for the next five years. Isotope are available at prices listed
  at http://www.ornl.gov/isotopes/catalog.htm. Volume discounts
are available to purchasers willing to commit $1.0 million
or more to isotope purchases over the five year period. By
September 30, 1998, organizations planning to purchase significant
quantities of stable isotopes are requested to provide written
expressions of intent to purchase to Marketing Manager (NE-70)
at 19901 Germantown Road Germantown, MD 20874-1290. The expressions
should identify specific isotopes quantities and characteristics.
Absent a sufficient commitment to purchase isotopes produced
at the calutrons, the Department intends to permanently cease
isotope production at this facility in 1999. RESPONSE DATE
