Experience

  Shaun Gleason

Shaun S. Gleason is a senior research and development staff member within the Image Science and Machine Vision Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He has 15 years of experience in applied image processing for industrial, security, and, most recently, medical imaging applications. He earned the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2001, with a research focus on x-ray computed tomography and 2D and 3D model-based medical image segmentation. In addition he is currently performing research on image reconstruction techniques for transmission- and emission-based computed tomography, stereo-based optical 3D tracking of small animals during medical imaging studies, and fractal-based segmentation of medical and satellite imagery. In 1998 he co-founded of a small animal imaging company that has successfully transferred ORNL-developed technology into the commercial research sector. He has authored and coauthored 75 publications and has been issued 4 patents in the field of image processing.
