Research Experience and Interests
Mr. Whitehead joined the Geographic Information Sciece and Technology Group in June of 2009 as a post bachelors research associate. Currently, he is working on populations density tables, imagery analysis and data collection for projects, and validation and verifications of LandScan USA data.
While at UNC-CH, Mr. Whitehead worked with the Town of Highlands, NC and the Highlands Biological Station. He conducted an in depth watershed analysis using both GIS and GPS and created a new perennial streams map for the Town of Highlands. He worked with a team from Highlands Biological Station studying canopy gap analysis and the effects of forest composition do Hemlock lose.
Mr. Whitehead’s area of focus is the application of GIS in mountain biodiversity and conservation studies as well as watershed and stream analysis and research.
