Research Experience and Interests
Ms. Urban initially joined the Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIST) group at ORNL in September 2004 as a student and became a staff member in December 2006. She is currently involved in a variety of projects including LandScan Global, LandScan USA, and a member of the Visualization Management Working Group for ORNL.
While at Purdue University, Ms. Urban has had the opportunity to pursue different research projects including undergraduate work in glacial studies related to borehole inclinometry on the Haut Glacier d’Arolla in Switzerland, and graduate research work in long-term hydrologic impacts of land use change utilizing GIS in Indiana. She also spent a summer working for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in Indianapolis digitizing and analyzing water well locations. Since leaving Purdue University, Marie worked for WesternGeco, a seismic oil exploration company for five years. Following work for WesternGeco, Marie worked as a student for almost three years within the GIST group as a GIS analyst before becoming a staff member in December 2006.
