Research Experience and Interests
Ms. Sims is currently working at the Lab part-time as a graduate research associate while attending the University of Tennessee, Knoxville full-time in pursuit of her Master’s degree in the Human Geography and GIS disciplines. Her current responsibilities include open source research of special event data (attendance, demographics, locality) and how the use of VGI through social media feeds will help develop a population GIS model for a more accurate high resolution population distribution data.
Before deciding to go going back to Graduate School, Ms. Sims worked as a full-time Research Associate as a Post-Bachelors contractor with the group from August 2009 to August 2012. Responsibilities included the validation and verification of LandScan USA data, as well as imagery analysis and data collection to support several other projects.
She also spent a semester interning during her final months as an undergrad (Spring 2009). Research projects included working on the study of Las Vegas population variations due to special events, and while at the University of Tennessee, restaurant location determination for Knoxville, Tennessee based upon price and cuisine.
Ms. Sims is interested in GIS for the use of spatial analysis/modeling.
