Research Experience and Interests

Ms. Rose joined the Geographic Information Science and Technology Group at ORNL in July 2007, and has experience in both private and public sector organizations implementing GIS technology in environmental, logistics, and transportation planning projects.  She is currently co-developer of ORNL's LandScan Global Population Distribution Program.  LandScan, a high-resolution global population distribution database, is the standard database used by the Department of Defense for estimating population at risk.  In addition, she is the co-developer of LandScan USA, a very high-resolution population database for the U.S. including diurnal and demographic variations.  Ms. Rose is also a contributing developer for the U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Knowledge Discovery Framework.

Prior to joining the Geographic Information Science and Technology Group, Ms. Rose served as a Technical Project Manager for The Shaw Group, Inc.  In this role, Ms. Rose led project teams through all phases of the development of spatial decision support systems for a variety of clients including the Defense Energy Support Center.  In addition to managing these projects, Ms. Rose also contributed her expertise in the areas of spatial database design/implementation and GIS application development.  From 1995 thru 2004, Ms. Rose worked at The University of Tennessee Center for Transportation Research and the National Transportation Research Center.  There, she served as technical lead and project manager of strategic transportation planning projects for clients including the U. S. Department of Transportation and the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command.
