Location and Sponsorship

The Twelfth International Conference on Radio Frequency Power in Plasmas will be held at the Savannah Marriott in Savannah, Georgia, on April 1-3, 1997, under the auspices of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The local organizing committee chairmen are Dr. Daniel J. Hoffman, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Dr. Tom Intrator, University of Wisconsin-Madison. The program committee also includes Drs. Stefano Bernabei (PPPL), David Start (JET), Paul Vandenplas (ERM), Fritz Wesner (IPP), Paul Bonoli (MIT), Haruyuki Kimura (JAERI), Ron Prater (GA), Bernard Saoutic (CEA).

Topics

This conference will address applications of radio frequency (rf) fields to plasma heating, current drive, and MHD control in plasmas. Contributions are also encouraged in the areas of basic rf wave physics, rf sources, rf materials processing, ionospheric and astrophysical rf interactions, etc. Examples of topics to be included are the launching, propogation, and absorption of rf energy in various frequency ranges (Alfven to electron cyclotron) as these topics relate to heating, confinement, plasma production, plasma processing, plasma diagnostics, and current generation. Papers on the technical aspects of rf heating are welcome.
