ORNL hosted 200
undergraduate science, math, engineering, and technology
students and 70 faculty from selected Historically Black
Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and core universities at a
"Day of Science" on Monday, November 17. Students in the
disciplines of business and finance were also invited to
attend. The purpose of the event was to increase the number
of minority students applying and being selected for the
Laboratory's summer or semester undergraduate research
programs by informing them about research programs,
applications, and the selection process. Students also had a
chance to get familiarized with the Lab environment and to
learn from ORNL representatives about exciting ongoing
R&D. The program gave students a chance to drop off
resumes and meet with possible mentors. Research divisions,
including FED, provided representatives, displays, flyers,
and posters. Also included were Laboratory tours,
information on education programs, and sessions for
accompanying faculty members.
