Dynamics of Networks
Complex systems, such as power transmission systems or communication networks, which run near their operational limits, can develop non-periodic major cascading disruptions, which can have serious consequences. Individually these disruptions can be attributed to a specific cause, or causes. However, finding these individual causes overlooks the global dynamics of the system in which repeated major disruptions, from a variety of sources, are a virtual certainty.
We utilize complex dynamics approach to investigate the communication and power transmission systems, with the emphasis on catastrophic failure, from a very general system point of view.
