Materials

ORNL is a major contributor to the development of low-activation, radiation-resistant fusion materials.

Atomic Physics

The experimental atomic physics program carries out studies of atomic collisions relevant to fusion

processes and plasma diagnostics. In close coordination with a collaborative atomic theory program,

this activity performs benchmark measurements along isoelectronic, isonuclear, and isoionic sequences

for testing theoretical approximations and approaches.  The Controlled Fusion Atomic Data Center

provides bibliographic and evaluated numerical data on atomic and molecular processes relevant to

fusion R&D.

Stellarator Research

FED publishes the international newsletter Stellarator News. Back issues of Stellarator News and reprints

of stellarator articles by members of the division are available in Adobe PDF format in this section.

Technology and Science Applications

The program conducts a variety of R&D; projects applying fusion-related technologies and expertise to

other fields such as plasma processing and waste disposal.
