Power and Energy System Group (PES)is a research group in the Energy and Transportation Science Division, Energyand Engineering Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Areas of Expertise:

• Power systems
• Distributed energy resources, such as wind, photovoltatics
• Power electronics applications in power systems
• Smart grid
• Power system economics and efficiency

Collaborative efforts are encouraged between the PES, industry, and academia. The most advanced analysis, simulation, and design software is available to the PES staff to implement state-of-the art circuit and motor designs.

The Distributed Energy Communications and Controls Facility (DECC) Laboratory has been established for power electronic-based distributed energy resources. The laboratory equipment interfaces to the ORNL distribution system.
